Gammelsbach is a district of Oberzent in the Odenwald district in southern Hesse .

geography

Gammelsbach is located in the Odenwald south of Beerfelden in the Gammelsbachtal . The district extends between the ridge lines of the Hirschhorner Höhe in the west and the Sensbacher Höhe in the east. The federal highway 45 runs through the village .

history

The village was first mentioned in a document in 772 with the place name Gaminesbache as a gift to the Lorsch monastery .

In the period around the Thirty Years' War there were two iron hammers for processing manganese and scrap iron . Later the population worked in stone quarries or as linen weavers .

In 1939 Gammelsbach had 628 inhabitants and belonged to the district of Erbach .

On October 1, 1971, Gammelsbach was incorporated into the city of Beerfelden , which in turn formed the city of Oberzent on January 1, 2018 with other communities.
