Hetzbach is located about two kilometers north of Beerfelden in the red sandstone area of the Odenwald . The place has a village structure and was laid out with a random floor plan at the junction of Walterbach and Gretengraben , the source streams of the Mümling , in a double-sided valley location. The Marbach with the Marbach reservoir and the Himbachel form the boundary in the north. The Ebersberger Felsenmeer , the Gebhardshütte inn ( 520  m above sea level ), the Rudelsberg ( 514  m above sea level ) and the Mittelberg ( 506.6  m above sea level ) with the headwaters of the Schöllenbach are located on the eastern border beyond the extensive Hetzbacher Forest , the right source river of the Itterbach . In the south, the area barely spares the summit of the Krähberg ( 554.9  m above sea level ) with the hunting lodge Krähberg and includes the northern part of the Reußenkreuz and the Elseberg ( 518  m above sea level ). At Walterbach, the district boundary turns north-west just before Etzean and reaches the Marbach reservoir on Maisengrund , including the only partially wooded height on the Höhenweg ( 407.4  m above sea level ). The district area is 1667 hectares (1961), of which 1159 hectares are forested. The district extends in a west-east direction seven and a half kilometers, in the north-south direction it extends for around three and a half kilometers. To the east of the Ebersberger Felsenmeer , the area reaches a height of 550  m above sea level. NN .

Starting in the north, the districts of Haisterbach , Ebersberg , Bullau , Ober-Sensbach , Beerfelden and Etzean border on Hetzbach clockwise .

history

Hetzbach was first mentioned in 1353. In the 15th century it belonged to the Electoral Palatinate ( Amt Lindenfels ), and in 1509 the village was exchanged for Electoral Palatinate vassals, the taverns of Erbach (Amt Freienstein). In 1806 Hetzbach became part of the Grand Duchy of Hesse (Darmstadt) with the mediatization of the entire Erbacher Grafschaft . Administratively, the place became part of the district of Erbach in 1822, since 1848 administrative district of Erbach and from 1852 district of Erbach .

Along with other previously independent municipalities Hetzbach was on July 1, 1971 ahead of the municipal reform in Hesse in the city Beerfelden incorporated . Since January 1, 2018, Hetzbach, like all former Beerfeld districts, has become a district of the newly founded town of Oberzent. As in the Beerfeld era, a local district with a local advisory council and a local mayor is set up for Hetzbach in Oberzent .

In the town's land register from the second half of the 19th century, three pits were recorded: the "Wilibald" pit, the "Laurentius" pit and the "Florentine" pit.

Transport and infrastructure

Krähberg tunnel
Himbächel Viaduct

Hetzbach is one of three districts in Oberzent that has a train station. The next stops of the Odenwaldbahn are south in Schöllenbach and north in Erbach . Hetzbach owes its popularity to the two largest structures on the railway line and cultural monuments, the Himbächel Viaduct and the Krähberg Tunnel. As early as 1876, the decision was made to open up the region with a railway line, and the Himbächel Viaduct was completed on September 18, 1881. Guest workers from Italy were mainly involved in the construction of the imposing railway bridge. The Krähbergtunnel, at 3,100 meters the longest single-track railway tunnel in Germany, was completed in 1882. The station building at Hetzbach station and the track systems not connected to the operating track have been sold since 1999 and are (currently) still operated by the Deutsche Museum-Eisenbahn as a railway infrastructure in an island location. The operating track of the Odenwaldbahn and the associated platform will continue to be operated by Deutsche Bahn .

At the northern end of the village, Hetzbach has an open-air swimming pool and a camping site in Swimming Pool Street.

Cultural monuments

In addition to the Himbächel Viaduct and Krähberg Tunnel, the district has 16 other cultural monuments :
