The Monument Topography of the Federal Republic of Germany - Cultural Monuments in Hesse is a series of books published by the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments in Hesse , which records, documents and researches all cultural monuments in Hesse in accordance with the Hessian Monument Protection Act .

The inventory of the Hessian cultural monuments itself goes back to the 19th century. The current inventory takes place within the framework of the monument topography of the Federal Republic of Germany recommended by the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Culture of the Federal States . The first volume in Hesse appeared in 1982, the 59th volume (Marburg-Biedenkopf II district) in 2017. This means that significantly more than two thirds of the area of ​​Hesse are included in monument topographies.

With the publication of this volume, the following are still missing: the old district of Waldeck in the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg (2 volumes), the city of Kassel (volume IV), the old district of Wolfhagen in the district of Kassel , the old districts of Fritzlar-Homberg (2 volumes) and Melsungen im Schwalm -Eder district , the northern and western part of the Marburg-Biedenkopf district (vols. III + IV), city of Marburg (city center), the old district of Gersfeld in the Fulda district (2 vols.), Vogelsbergkreis part I (old district of Alsfeld), the Old districts Schlüchtern and Hanau in the Main-Kinzig district , the suburbs of Wiesbaden (2 vols.), The district of Groß-Gerau as well as seven cities and twelve communities in the Bergstrasse district (3 vols.).

Manifestation

The content of the new volumes appeared in the online version of denkxweb some time after the print edition. The contents of the volumes that have already been published are to be incorporated there gradually.

The descriptions of the individual cultural monuments are accompanied by illustrations and marked maps. Compared to the first volumes, which presented the monuments in a catalog, the later volumes are characterized by more comprehensive descriptions.
