The existence of the place is documented under the name Etzelshan since 1366. By excavations in the years 1959 and 1967 to 1970 showed that Etzean was settled in the 10th century. The iron slag discovered during the archaeological excavations suggests that the inhabitants of the village were forest smiths. A flint blade found during the excavations allows the conclusion that the Etzean area was already walked on in the Neolithic Age .
