At 515 meters, Bullau is the highest district of Erbach with the highest elevation of 560 meters in the Odenwald district in southern Hesse . The district has about 400 inhabitants.

Geographical location

Bullau is the south-easternmost district of Erbach and the only one located in the Neckar catchment area. The western boundary of the district runs roughly along the important Odenwald ridge that separates the Mümlingtal in the west from the Ittertal in the east. The eastern border runs in the valley through the Diebsgrund and the Eutergrund , and thus partly along the Bavarian border.

The local situation is divided into the actual Bullau and the Bullauer Eutergrund located east of it in the valley . In a south-westerly direction, on the way to the Krähberg hunting lodge , Bullau has a share in the Gebhardshütte residential area . To the north-west of the village, in the Kohlwald, is the highest elevation in the Odenwaldkreis, not further named, at 560.4 meters.

history

Finds from Roman times suggest that the origins of Bullau are related to the presence of Roman occupation troops on the Neckar-Odenwald-Limes . The oldest surviving documentary mention in the Lorsch Codex as Buolaha dates from 1095. The form of the name Bullauwe is attested to 1443. The type of settlement is that of a row village or forest hoof village . In 1443 Count Palatine Ludwig Schenk enfeoffed Philipp von Erbach with the village of Bullau. In 1561 the Bullau picture was erected. In 1806 Bullau and the county of Erbach came to the Grand Duchy of Hesse . In 1829 Bullau forms a district with udder ground. A building worth seeing is the Romanesque Evangelical Church in Bullau .

On the occasion of the regional reform in Hesse , Bullau joined the city of Erbach on February 1, 1972.

traffic

For regional traffic, Bullau is opened up by the K 42 district road, which comes from Erbach via Erlenbach and ends here.
