Günterfürst is a district of Erbach in the Odenwald district in southern Hesse with around 700 inhabitants.

Geographical location

Günterfürst is located in the Odenwald around two kilometers south of the core town of Erbach and west of the Mümling on a hill in the middle of a clearing 320 m above sea level.

history

The existence of the place is documented under the name Gundersfirst since 1347. The name can be traced back to a proper name and the word "First", which means mountain ridge. In 1806 the place came with the county of Erbach to the Grand Duchy of Hesse . Günterfürst was incorporated into the city of Erbach on December 31, 1971 on the occasion of the regional reform in Hesse .

Customs

Every year in the Christmas season from December 1st to 24th there is the traditional Advent window. On the 24 days of Advent, a family always decorates a window of the house for Christmas. The citizens then meet in the evening hours with children and their families . There is mulled wine and pastries, and Christmas carols are sung and poems are recited.
