Elsbach is a district of Erbach in the Hessian Odenwaldkreis .
Elsbach, a former Waldhufendorf lies on the Lauerbach in the red sandstone area, 2 km west of the main town. Through roads do not lead through the village on the edge of the forest.
history
The village was first mentioned in a document in 1095 in the Lorsch Codex . In 1939 the place had 53 inhabitants and belonged to the district of Erbach.
Territorial reform
On December 31, 1971, Elsbach was incorporated into the district town of Erbach as part of the regional reform in Hesse .
Place name
The place name is derived from Eller, a regional name for the alder , i.e. a settlement on a stream overgrown with alders. Elsbach was mentioned under the following names in documents that have survived (the year it was mentioned in brackets):
