Roßbach is a district of Erbach in the Odenwaldkreis in southern Hesse .

Geographical location

Roßbach is a hamlet that essentially consists of the Roßbacher Hof , a large agricultural homestead, and around 15 inhabited properties. It is located in the Erbach district a good three kilometers west of the city center in the red sandstone area of the Odenwald in a wide, forest-free hollow in the headwaters of the Roßbach, which as a left western tributary flows through the wooded valley of the Brudergrund towards the Mümling . In 1854 the district area was 533 acres , of which 474 mg were arable and 59 mg were meadows. The forest-free areas around Roßbach in the Erbacher district are measured today on around 1.19 square kilometers, which corresponds to the above-mentioned 533 Mg. The field markings extend from north to south-west as far as a ridge that curves around Roßbach at a constant 415 meters high. The closest localities are the core town of Erbach in the east, Steinbuch in the north, Ober-Mossau in the north-west, Unter-Mossau in the south-west and Elsbach in the south-east.

history

The hamlet of Rossebuoch was first mentioned in a document in 1095 in the Lorsch Codex . In 1806 the place came with the county of Erbach to the Grand Duchy of Hesse and in 1840 received the status of an independent district . In 1856 the place had 58 inhabitants and belonged to the district of Erbach . With effect from April 1, 1953, the independent district Roßbach was dissolved by a resolution of the Hessian state government at the same time as a number of other independent districts. Roßbach was incorporated into the city of Erbach. This cabinet resolution, which was apparently inadequate from a legal point of view, was confirmed retrospectively by the law on the incorporation of parish-free land in the Darmstadt administrative region of July 4, 1966 (GVBl. I p. 177).

traffic

The district road K 49 from Erbach to Unter-Mossau turns at the upper exit of the Brudergrund to the south-west and leads south past Roßbach. Shortly before the bend in the K 49, the street Zum Roßbacher Hof branches off to the right, thus opening up the town.
