Steinbuch is a district of Michelstadt in the Odenwaldkreis in southern Hesse .

Geographical location

Steinbuch is a district in the west of Michelstadt and lies in the headwaters of the Steinbach . The highest elevation of the district is 433 meters high and lies on the ridge line that separates the Mümlingtal from the Mossau valley and at the same time forms the western border of the Steinbucher district. The division of the fields around the location of Steinbuch shows the typical striped pattern of a forest hoof village , adapted to the semi-rounded valley shape.

history

The oldest documented mention of Steinbuch that has survived dates from 1329. The extraction of potash by burning wood for the production of soft soap and glass production was an important occupation for the residents for a long time. The name of the forest district "Pottaschenbuckel" still reminds of it. In the Thirty Years War , the village died out with the exception of three residents.

On February 1, 1972, Steinbuch voluntarily joined the city of Michelstadt on the occasion of the regional reform in Hesse . As for every district of Michelstädter, a local district with a local advisory council and a local mayor was established.

Transport and infrastructure

Steinbuch is located on the K 50 district road , which leads from the core town of Michelstadt via Steinbach in the east to Ober-Mossau in the west.
