history

The area of Vielbrunn Roman past testify to the fort Eulbach and Castle Hainhaus , soil remains of Roman military camps of the older Odenwald line of the Neckar-Odenwald-Limes .

The historic village fountain, 2010

Vielbrunn appears for the first time in 1012 under the name Villebrunnen. The spelling Fulbronn, Fulbron and Fülbrünn occurs in documents from 1432 and 1468. In writings from the 18th century, the place is called Villbronn. Vielbrunn is located on the ridge stretching from Eulbach to Obernburg , which is named Nobbenhuson in the description of the Odenwälder Bannforstes from 1012. This name has been preserved to this day, because a field district in the Vielbrunn area still bears the name Zobbenhausen. The Hainhaus is located on the ridge in a northerly direction (until 1432 it was called Bentzenburg). The very old hamlet of Bremhof also belongs to Vielbrunn , the name of which is derived from the Branbach brook , which is an old border of the Odenwälder Bannforstes. The small hamlet of Brunnthal, called Brontall and Borntal in the 15th century, is also part of Vielbrunn. It is located in the valley of the same name, which runs from the Vielbrunner Höhe directly down to the Main and ends at Laudenbach . Below Bremhof, formerly also called Baschtelshof, the Geyerstal begins. In 1432 it was called Geyersnest, and the Hangenmüller fountain rises right at the beginning. The hanging mill , formerly called the hanging mill , was built directly at the source . This was bought by the community of Vielbrunn at the beginning of the 20th century, the buildings were demolished and the waterworks and the Vielbrunn water pipeline were built. The Hangenmüller fountain is the origin of the Geyersbach, which in its course through the Geyerstal receives several fountains that arise there. It flows past the Geyersmühle and unites with the Vielbrunner Bach to form the Ohrbach , called Maranbach in 1012 and Ornbach in 1432. Only the smallest part of the earlier village of the same name belonged to the community of Vielbrunn, the largest area belonged to Bavaria. From this part of the village (Hesse), only one stands today barn from sandstone directly on the main road. The source of the Walbernbach lies at the height between Vielbrunn and the Sansenhof, at the upper end of the Walbern valley, which comes from the west near Ohrnbach and flows into the Ohrnbach valley. It is called Wallenbronno in 1012 and Walborn in 1432. In 1012 it was mentioned as the border point of the Odenwälder Bannforst, and the Walbernbach, which flows into the Ohrbach, is still a border water between Hesse and Bavaria.

Vielbrunn belonged to the lordship of Breuberg until 1806 and then came to the Grand Duchy of Hesse . On August 1, 1972, the community of Vielbrunn became part of the city of Michelstadt as part of the regional reform in Hesse . As for every district of Michelstädter, a local district with a local advisory council and a local mayor was established.

Religions

More than two thirds of the population are Protestant and less than one third are Catholic . Other religions and religious groups only appear in small minorities.

  • In addition to the parish of Vielbrunn, the neighboring village of Kimbach also belongs to the Protestant parish. With the Dietrich Bonhoeffer House, the community has a community center, runs a Protestant kindergarten and has its own parsonage from 1570. In the Evangelical Church from 1495 (tower) and 1730–34 (ship), services are held every Sunday instead of. Another place of worship is the chapel 'Auf dem Gottesacker' in Kimbach. There has been an active partnership with the Evangelical Church Congregation Skaudvilė in the Tauragė district in Lithuania since 2001 .
  • The Catholic parish "Heilig Geist" - Vielbrunn (Pfarrkuratie Vielbrunn - Hainhaus) has existed since July 1, 1938. Its predecessor was the König - Vielbrunn parish office founded in 1905. It is a community in the diaspora, so it exists in the middle of a largely evangelical surrounding area. The Catholic parish church " Heilig Geist " was founded in 1974. It has been with the parish "St. Sebastian ”- Michelstadt has a parish office, the parish“ Heilig Geist ”is today part of the parish group“ Am Odenwälder Einhardsweg ”.

On April 7, 1970, the community of Vielbrunn in what was then the district of Erbach was given a coat of arms with the following blazon : In red over an inverted silver rafter, a silver tower with a two-column gallery.

Culture and sights

dialect

In the Hessian Odenwald, the Odenwald dialect is spoken which is related to the Palatinate . However, this can be so different from place to place that even the locals have problems understanding each other. A typical sentence for the Vielbrunn dialect is: "'S hodd Daach unn Naachd, Schnej g'maachd". The following sentence is used to illustrate the difference between individual village dialects: “De Haas hibbt blous to uff die Vielbrinner Hej. Waarim? Doann hibbt de Hås! ”In the neighboring village of Kimbach, the“ a ”in a word is not pronounced as long as in Vielbrunn, but rather like“ oa ”, similar to the Scandinavian “ å ”.

Buildings

  • The Roman Odenwald Limes with the Hainhaus fort and remains of the fortifications and watchtowers throughout the area. Since 2010, a replica of a wooden Roman watchtower has been inviting visitors to visit near the Vielbrunn glider airfield. The approximately 11.5 meter high reconstruction was carried out according to current scientific knowledge and was built in the immediate vicinity of the original WP10 / 15 stand. The viewing level, which is 6.6 meters high, allows a good panoramic view of the surrounding area.
  • The Evangelical Laurentius Church in Vielbrunn , formerly consecrated to Saint Laurentius , built in 1495 (tower). It is one of the best-preserved fortified churches in the Odenwald and is still surrounded today by a wall that has been laid down high but has been completely preserved as a bering. The nave is much younger than the tower and was built between 1730–34. In the tower you can admire frescoes from the time the church was built. The nave is equipped with organ, baptismal font, altar cross, pulpit, benches and galleries from the 18th century.
  • Some lovingly restored half-timbered houses and well-preserved buildings invite you to take a walk through the village. By far the oldest residential building in Vielbrunn is the Protestant rectory, which was built in 1570. The former Fürstlich Löwenstein'sche Oberförsterei from the beginning of the 18th century and the old farm of the Olt family with gate posts from the 17th century, with buildings from the 19th century, as well as the two village fountains are evidence of village life from earlier centuries.
  • The Planet and Earth Age Path (PEW) was opened on September 20, 2015 along the Hegweg to the Vielbrunn weather station. It includes a 787-meter-long information and hiking trail, which, in addition to various accompanying flyers on astronomy and natural phenomena , presents a scale model of the solar system . The sun and the eight planets of our solar system are illustrated with scaled sculptures and data, such as B. the size or mass of the respective planet shown. The proportions in our solar system are illustrated realistically here.

Regular events

  • The traditional Vielbrunn curb is celebrated on the last weekend in August .
  • The VCC (Vielbrunner Carneval Club) organizes two ceremonial sessions every year during the carnival season. The Holzmacherball in January or the Bembelfest (apple wine festival) at the VCC casino “Brechdärre” in summer are also attractive events of the association.
  • The Vielbrunn swimming pool is operated by the Vielbrunn swimming pool development association and is a popular meeting place for young and old in summer. The swimming pool team hosts a beach party every summer with live bands and there has even been a cocktail bar in recent years.

Geierstal nature reserve

With an area of 16.02  hectares , the fifth largest nature reserve in the Odenwald district is located on the Vielbrunn district. Since December 14, 2000, the Geierstal, not far from the Geiersmühle belonging to Vielbrunn on the Hessian-Bavarian border, has been under special protection. Starting near the state road L3318, the NSG follows the course of the narrow Geierstal stream. The preservation of the valley meadow landscape, the preservation of the natural and fish-rich stream with a valuable black alder border as well as the protection of the remains of large sedge and tall herbaceous meadows with accompanying grass lawn are the declared protection goal of this protected area. The neighboring beech forest also forms an outstanding habitat for a wide variety of amphibians and forest birds.
