Mainbullau is a district of Miltenberg in the Miltenberg district, Lower Franconia administrative district , with just under 300 inhabitants. The district is located on a mountain above the Main Valley near Miltenberg and is known for its airfield .

history

The parish village of Mainbullau was created as a clearing settlement by the males of Collenberg ( feudal men of the Teutonic Order ) and originally belonged to Cent Kleinheubach . The place is already mentioned in the Mainzer Koppelfutterverzeichnis in the middle of the 13th century.

In the 16th century, the Rüdt von Collenberg raised their two Vogteiorte Mainbullau and Rüdenau to their own neck court. This neck court was retained even after it was taken over by the Mainz diocese in 1659. The place of jurisdiction remained Rüdenau, but since there was no prison , the delinquents were brought to Miltenberg from 1659, i. H. the centering extended Miltenberg to both places. In 1668, the bishops resettled Catholic farmers in the former Protestant town, which was almost depopulated by the horrors of the Thirty Years War . In 1803, during the secularization , the village was added to the Princely House of Leiningen , then to the Grand Duchy of Baden and finally to the Grand Duchy of Hesse . Bavaria then finally received sovereignty through the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna in 1815.

In 1862 the Miltenberg district office was formed, on whose administrative area Mainbullau was located. As everywhere in the German Reich , the term district was introduced in 1939. Mainbullau was now one of the 31 communities in the old district of Miltenberg . On July 1, 1972, this merged with the district of Obernburg am Main to form the new district of Miltenberg .

Mainbullau as an independent municipality became a district of Miltenberg on January 1, 1976.

In the forest above Mainbullau, nuclear anti-aircraft missiles of the " Nike Hercules " type were stationed from 1961 to 1970 as part of the air defense of Europe during the Cold War . This Nike position of the US armed forces was part of the anti-aircraft belt against air strikes from the east, which was then laid across Germany. The missiles remained there until 1979. After 1970 there were plans for a Pershing position in Mainbullau for a few years .

church

Interior view of St. Katharina Mainbullau

The church of St. Katharina is probably built over several times. The three-storey tower and choir are early Gothic and, according to the style, were built around 1300 by the Teutonic Order and served as a fortified church for the Rüdt von Collenbergs until 1636 . The church then came under the rule of the Elector of Mainz and remained a fiefdom of Mainz until 1803. The baroque nave was built in 1799.

On the south side there is a stone slab with three openings - a Roman spoil , probably a hypocaust slab . The choir of the east tower has a rib cross vault, steeply embossed ribs end in a round keystone with four-leaf and acorns. At the front edge is a mocking mask with an outstretched tongue. The ogival window on the east side is probably still original. The sacristy is south of the choir. The flat-roofed nave has three window axes. In the portal there is a niche with a wooden figure of St. Catherine .

present

The airfield, which today has its own shipyard and aircraft hangar (since 1996) in addition to the supply systems, has been classified as a commercial airfield with full-week operation since 1968 . Up to 30 motorized and glider planes are stationed here.

In 1996, on the initiative of the Heimatverein founded in 1991, a new village community center was expanded by converting the so-called Milchhäusle .

The Energieforum Miltenberg-Aschaffenburg eV has existed since 2007 and was brought into being by the citizens of Mainbullau. The aim of the energy forum is a 100% energy supply of the Lower Maing area with renewable energies .

There is a lively club life in the village, supported by the volunteer fire brigade , local and sports clubs.

In the competition " Our village has a future - our village should become more beautiful ", Mainbullau represents the Miltenberg district at the district level. Through the renovation of the village over the past two decades, the infrastructure has been improved and the external appearance of the place has been improved. A new village center, as well as a playground and a leisure area, which were redesigned by over 2000 working hours, characterize the place.
