Works

Georg Christian Dieffenbach is primarily regarded as the creator of edification writings, liturgical works and poetry. In his Ev. Hausagende (1853) there is an evening prayer that is still widely used today:

Stay with us, Lord,
for evening is about to come
and the day has passed.
Stay with us and with all of your Church.
Stay with us in the evening of the day, in
the evening of life, in the evening of the world.
Stay with us with your grace and goodness,
with your holy word and sacrament,
with your consolation and blessings.
Stay with us
when
the night of tribulation and fear comes over us ,
the night of doubt and trial,
the night of bitter death.
Stay with us and all your believers
in time and forever.
Amen.

Many of his children's songs have been set to music by Franz Abt and CA Kern .

Dieffenbach is considered one of the early important youth writers .
