Schönnen is a district of the district town of Erbach in the Odenwaldkreis in southern Hesse .

Geographical location

Schönnen is located in the low mountain range Odenwald , three kilometers south of the main town Erbach.

The lower village lies in the valley of the Mümling . Coming from Oberdorf, the so-called Fettbach flows towards the Mümling from the east. The village community center (former schoolhouse) and a fire station for the volunteer fire brigade are also located in the upper village .

The village was first mentioned in documents in 1290. In 1939 the place had 230 inhabitants and belonged to the district of Erbach.

On August 1, 1972, Schönnen was incorporated into the district town of Erbach as part of the regional reform in Hesse .
