history
Urbanization
The city of Nidderau was created through the voluntary amalgamation of the city of Windecken and the municipality of Heldenbergen as part of the regional reform in Hesse on January 1, 1970. For this reason, the Nidderau city coat of arms is composed of the Windecker and Heldenberg coat of arms. On December 31, 1971, the northern places Eichen and Erbstadt joined. Most recently, by virtue of the Ostheim state law, it followed on July 1, 1974.

badges and flags
coat of arms
Blazon : "In the split shield in front three golden rafters in red, behind in gold a one-headed black imperial eagle at the gap."
The coat of arms was approved by the Hessian Ministry of the Interior for the municipality of Nidderau in what was then the district of Hanau on May 4, 1971 . It was designed by the Bad Nauheim heraldist Heinz Ritt .
The eagle comes from that of the former municipality of Heldenbergen and shows its former affiliation to the Reichsburg Friedberg . The rafters were taken from the coat of arms of the former city of Windecken and show its affiliation to the County of Hanau . The other three districts used to belong to Hanau and showed the colors red and gold in their coat of arms.
flag
The flag was approved together with the coat of arms by the Hessian Ministry of the Interior and is described as follows:
"The flag shows the two colors yellow and red, in the upper third the municipal coat of arms."
Partnerships
Nidderau has had a partnership with Gehren in Thuringia since September 1st, 1991 . The Hungarian Kurd has been a so-called cooperation partner of Nidderau since March 11, 2000 .
Culture and sights
New city center
Since the amalgamation of the core towns of Windecken and Heldenbergen, there was only a sparsely populated area between the districts, so that the desire for a new town center soon arose. After long deliberations in the committees and the public, it was decided to develop an area of around 13 hectares west of Konrad-Adenauer-Allee as the new town center. An approximately 11,000 square meter shopping and service center with a large parking lot was built under the name “Nidderforum”. The sales area is 6000 square meters. A prominent focal point of the central commercial area is an elevated restaurant with a distant view of Frankfurt. The other surrounding areas have been approved for construction of private homes and rental apartments with ecological standards. Construction of the center began in May 2015 and the Nidder Forum opened on June 2, 2016.
The Nidderau solar park in Windecken, which went into operation on September 1, 2019, supplies 1.3 megawatts of electricity in the initial phase. The construction costs around 2.5 million euros.

traffic
Road traffic
Bundesstrasse 45 and Bundesstrasse 521 intersect in Nidderau . A western bypass for the core town of Heldenbergen / Windecken was built between 2009 and 2015, which relieves the city of through traffic, especially in the north-south direction. The entire 8.3-kilometer route was opened at the end of June 2015.
Public transport
The most important bus line is line 562, which connects Nidderau and its districts with Hanau . There were massive protests after the timetable change in 2009, which significantly increased travel times, as the Bruchköbel in the south is no longer bypassed, but crossed. There is also the MKK-45 city bus, which provides better access to the Heldenbergen district .

In the urban area of Nidderau there are two railway lines that briefly join and then separate again. With the Nidderau train station there is a train station on the Friedberg – Hanau railway line and on the Niddertal Railway from Bad Vilbel to Glauburg-Stockheim. There are connections to Frankfurt am Main , Hanau , Friedberg (Hessen) and Stockheim (Glauburg) am Vogelsberg . There are also the three stops Nidderau-Windecken and Nidderau-Eichen on the Niddertal Railway and Ostheim (Kr Hanau) on the Friedberg-Hanau railway line.
