The Nidderau station is a crossing station in the municipality of the same name on the Friedberg – Hanau railway line and on the Bad Vilbel – Glauburg-Stockheim railway line ( Niddertalbahn ).
history
The station was opened on December 1, 1879 under the name Heldenbergen-Windecken as the end point of the first section of the Friedberg – Hanau railway line ( Hanau –Heldenbergen-Windecken; today: Nidderau). The second section to Friedberg followed on September 15 (freight traffic) and October 15, 1881 (passenger traffic). The building owner and owner were the Prussian State Railways .
On October 1, 1905, the Niddertal Railway was opened on the Heldenbergen -Windecken (today: Nidderau) -Stockheim section. The building owner and owner was the Prussian-Hessian Railway Community . Heldenbergen-Windecken thus became a railway junction in the Wetterau .
Since May 4th, 2008 there is again weekend traffic on the Niddertalbahn. The platforms in Nidderau station were rebuilt. Initially, only the platform of the Niddertalbahn was expanded and raised to the exit height of the double-decker cars used here to 76 centimeters. The platform on the Friedberg – Hanau line was not renewed until 2010.
Reception building
The stately reception building of the station is a cultural monument according to the Hessian Monument Protection Act and is a listed building . It was built in neo-baroque style in three sections: The oldest part, built in 1880/81, is the middle part of the building with three window axes and the small windows of a mezzanine floor under the eaves. The part of the building to the south of it was added in 1906 when the Niddertal Railway was connected. A short time later it turned out that this extension was too small for the traffic that had arisen, and in 1912 the two-and-a-half-story building section in the north of the building group was added. The Heldenbergen-Windecken lettering is still on the building (seen from the platform) . The listed building is in a neglected structural condition in need of renovation.
