The Glauburg-Stockheim train station is, along with the Glauburg-Glauberg stop, one of two train stations in the Upper Hessian community of Glauburg . It is located at 45.8 km of the Gießen – Gelnhausen railway ( Lahn-Kinzig-Bahn ). The Niddertal Railway to Bad Vilbel also branches off here . From October 1st, 1888 to June 1st, 1984 the Oberwaldbahn to Lauterbach began here .

The station is in the tariff area of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV).

history

The Glauburg-Stockheim station was opened under the name Stockheim (Oberhess) on October 30, 1870 with the opening of the Nidda – Büdingen section of the Lahn-Kinzig Railway. On October 1, 1888, the Stockheim – Gedern (Oberwaldbahn) section of the Niddertalbahn was opened. This section is the oldest part of the Niddertal Railway. Exactly 17 years later, on October 1st, 1905, the Niddertal Railway was built further south (section Nidderau – Stockheim). There was continuous traffic between Bad Vilbel and Lauterbach since June 1, 1907.

Passenger traffic on the Stockheim – Lauterbach line was stopped on September 28, 1975. Freight traffic on the Stockheim – Gedern line continued until June 1, 1984. On June 10, 2001, all tracks between Stockheim and Lauterbach were finally dismantled. Most of this route can now be explored by bike on the " volcano cycle path ".

In 2008 the route of the Niddertalbahn was upgraded. Among other things, the entire superstructure was renewed. In addition, all platforms at the stops and the platforms in the Nidderau , Niederdorfelden and Stockheim stations were renewed and raised to the exit height of the double-decker cars used here (76 cm). Since May 4th, 2008 there is now also weekend traffic. For this reason, the RMV bus line 5150 (formerly Bahnbus 650), which ran between Bad Vilbel and Nidderau, was completely discontinued that day.

Tracks

The station has three platform tracks. The house platform ( platform 1) is used exclusively for trains of the Niddertalbahn in the direction of Nidderau , Bad Vilbel and Frankfurt am Main . The central platform (tracks 2 and 3) mainly serves the HLB trains of the Lahn-Kinzig-Bahn in the direction of Gießen via Nidda , Hungen and Lich and in a southerly direction to Gelnhausen via Büdingen . The trains run in both directions from track 2. Track 3 is mostly only used for train encounters. A train of the Niddertalbahn from Bad Vilbel rarely ends on track 3. In Stockheim, the ESTW-A (connected to ESTW-Z Altenstadt) was put into operation as a replacement for the previous mechanical signal boxes.

Reception building

The Niddertalbahn owes its nickname Stockheimer Lieschen to the former train station restaurant in Stockheim, where many travelers and railway employees like to stop by landlady Liesel Brand. Initially among railroad workers, soon also among the population, the trip “to Lieschen” to Stockheim became a popular phrase.

After long years of deterioration, the station building was finally sold to a private person in 2006 and partially renovated. The station restaurant has been modernized and reopened as a bistro. In the former service rooms, a model railway layout (Stockheim model station) with a focus on the Niddertal Railway can be viewed from the 1950s and 1960s.

Depot

In the northern area of the station there was a small depot on the west side with a 20 m turntable and a three-hour roundhouse. The turntable has been expanded, the locomotive shed has no track. To the south of the engine shed stood a scaffolded water tower.
