geography

Neighboring communities and districts

The municipality of Ronneburg borders the city of Büdingen ( Wetteraukreis ) in the north, the municipality Gründau in the east, the city Langenselbold in the south, the municipality Neuberg in the southwest and the municipality Hammersbach in the west .

Community structure

Ronneburg consists of the districts Altwiedermus , Neuwiedermuß and Hüttengesäß . The population was distributed as follows at the end of 2016 : Altwiedermus 734, Neuwiedermuss 546 and Hüttengesäß 2,201 inhabitants .

history

Buttocks

The village of Hüttengesäß belonged to the Selbold monastery in the 13th century . In the 15th century it was sold to the Isenburg House , in the 17th century to Isenburg-Birstein and in the 19th century to Kurhessen . In the Thirty Years' War strong found looting instead. In the 19th century there was a strong emigration to the New World . The old town center consists of Oberdorf and Unterdorf and until 1950 had two separate historical bakery houses . From 1896 to 1931, Hüttengesäß was the terminus of the Hanauer Kleinbahn .

Wiedermus

Like Hüttengesäß, the village of Wiedermus also belonged to the Selbold monastery. It was completely destroyed in the Thirty Years War. "Alt" wiedermus was then rebuilt. The village of Neuwiedermuß did not come into being until the beginning of the 18th century, when a Palatine (who lived in Langenselbold) was allowed to build a house and barn with the permission of the Count in the so-called »Fuchsgraben« .

Spelling of the place names

In earlier times the border between the Kingdom of Prussia and the Grand Duchy of Hesse ran between the villages of Altwiedermus and Neuwiedermuß. Altwiedermus was on Hessian territory and Neuwiedermuss belonged to Prussia. The Hessians always wrote the ending ... mus with an "s". Even in the Wetterau district , until recently it was still customary to write the name Neuwiedermuss as Neuwiedermus , with just a simple "s" at the end. Since Altwiedermus belonged to the former district of Büdingen (now Wetteraukreis) until the regional reform in Hesse , this place name continues to be written with an "s" at the end, while Neuwiedermuß and Hüttengesäß are written with the Prussian "ß".

Territorial reform

On December 31, 1971, as part of the regional reform in Hesse, the two communities Neuwiedermuß and Hüttengesäß merged to form the new community Ronneburg. These two villages belonged to the Hanau district at that time . On August 1, 1972, the municipality of Altwiedermus from the Büdingen district was added by state law . The districts of the three formerly independent municipalities were merged into a new district with the name Ronneburg (Gmk.-Nr. 61031). On the establishment of local districts has been omitted.
