Altwiedermus Jewish cemetery
The Altwiedermus Jewish cemetery is located in Altwiedermus , a district of the municipality of Ronneburg in the Main-Kinzig district in Hesse .
Geographical location
The Jewish cemetery is located north of the village on the road to Büdingen (L 3193) and west below Ronneburg Castle in the Fallbach valley . It can be reached via a dirt road from the sports field.
history
The cemetery was mainly used by the Jewish residents of the Ronneburg, while the Jewish cemetery in Eckartshausen was responsible for Altwiedermus . Perhaps that is why it had existed since the 15th or 16th century.
The oldest tombstone dates from 1774, according to other information from 1751. Until 1877 Jews from Mittel-Gründau were also buried here. The burials in the cemetery ended in 1884.
investment
The cemetery is located in a heavily overgrown field and covers an area of 1392 m². He is surrounded by a wire fence. There are still 15 tombstones left. The conspicuously hilly terrain of the cemetery could indicate an embankment that was necessary to make room for more graves.
