location

The Jewish cemetery is located west of the center of Rückingen on the corner of Römerstrasse and Jakobstrasse and not far from the Christian cemetery.

history

When the cemetery was built is not certain. There are records of Jewish citizens in Rückingen since the 18th century. The Isenburg-Birstein government only wanted six to eight families of protected Jews . Other sources name the 16th and 19th centuries for the construction of the cemetery. It was also used at times by the community in Langendiebach .

The cemetery was desecrated for the first time in 1932 when some gravestones were damaged . After 1945 there were still a few burials by the Felczer and Lilienfeld families.

investment

The cemetery has about 25 graves with a size of 800 m². It is surrounded by a partially plastered stone wall. A key to the cemetery can be obtained from the municipal cemetery administration.
