history

The cemetery has existed since around 1870 and was used exclusively by the Büdesheim community. The last burial took place on August 14, 1942 ( Kathinka Strauss ). Immediately afterwards, the last Jewish residents of Büdesheim were deported in mid-September of the same year and the cemetery was desecrated by SA men. The tombstones were overturned and the enclosure devastated. Some gravestones were then sold by the Büdesheim community.

investment

The cemetery covers an area of 823 m² and is surrounded by a hedge of bushes. Only 19 tombstones remain, which were grouped around a memorial stone outside the actual grave sites. This was built in the post-war period and bears the inscription Here was a Jewish cemetery, which fell victim to the Nazi terror in 1943–1944. Among them are 27 names. A key to the cemetery is available from the town hall of Schöneck.
