location

The Jewish cemetery is located northwest of the Gründau in the "Am Hinserbrühl" corridor. It can be reached from the neighboring streets via a footpath along the river.

history

The cemetery was laid out in the middle of the 18th century. It was partly used by the community in Langendiebach . In 1924 it had become too small, which is why the municipality sought to buy another piece of land. Apparently this did not happen as no further news about it is known in the following period. In the time of National Socialism , after the other cemeteries in the old district of Hanau were closed, it was the only one still open for Jewish burials.

investment

The cemetery takes a long rectangular shape with a size of 1902 m². It is surrounded by a stone wall. The entrance with a portal made of red sandstone is located in the southwest on the narrow side facing the river. The key to the cemetery is kept at the city administration and can be borrowed there.
