history

View of Altwiedermus from the keep of the Ronneburg

The Antsanvia , an old road , ran over the heights between Langen-Bergheim and Altwiedermus and further over Diebach am Haag and Herrnhaag . The place is first mentioned in 1173. The place name had different historical forms: Wechtramis, Witteroms and Wyderamis . In 1236 a refugee castle , today's Ronneburg Castle , was mentioned.

From the 18th century to 1933 there was a Jewish community in the village.

From 1874 to 1972 Altwiedermus belonged to the Büdingen district , which was largely absorbed into the Wetterau district. Thus it belonged to the Grand Duchy of Hesse-Darmstadt in the 19th century . That is why the place name is written with an "s" at the end, while Neuwiedermuß and Hüttengesäß , which have belonged to Prussia since the war of 1866 , are written with the Prussian "ß".

Ecclesiastically, Altwiedermus belongs to Eckartshausen .

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , Altwiedermus was incorporated into the municipality of Ronneburg in the Hanau district on August 1, 1972 by virtue of state law . On July 1, 1974, the community of Ronneburg and the district of Hanau moved to the Main-Kinzig district.
