Neighboring communities

Niddatal borders the city of Friedberg in the north, the city of Florstadt in the northeast, the municipality of Altenstadt and the city of Nidderau ( Main-Kinzig district ) in the east, and the municipality of Schöneck (Main-Kinzig district) and the city in the south Karben , and in the west to the municipality of Wöllstadt .

City structure

Niddatal consists of the districts of Assenheim (with the community-free farm group Wickstadt , which was incorporated into the city of Assenheim on April 1, 1957 ), Bönstadt , Ilbenstadt and Kaichen .

Church building

On December 1, 1970 , the city of Assenheim and the communities of Bönstadt and Ilbenstadt merged voluntarily to form the new city of Niddatal as part of the regional reform in Hesse . The village of Kaichen was added on December 31, 1971.

  • In Assenheim: knowledge trail along the rivers Nidda and Wetter, Storchenweg (circular hiking trail around Assenheim with a length of 3.8 km), old town hall, castle of the Counts of Solms-Rödelheim and Assenheim , teaching biotope, wooded nature trail, historic old town with Protestant church, former town mill with 45 m high silo tower in the center of the village, numerous cycle paths cross in Assenheim: long-distance cycle path R4, apple wine and orchard route, Celtic cycle route, rose cycle path.
  • In Bönstadt: leisure area u. a. with a large pond, fountain, long corridor
  • In Kaichen: The Steinern Table , old court. As a free court it did not belong to any rule. Here jurisdiction was exercised in the name of the king. The Free Court was a blood court and dealt with crimes that could only be atoned for by the death of the accused. It was also an appeals court.
  • In Ilbenstadt: The Ilbenstadt monastery was founded here by Count Gottfried von Cappenberg in 1123 as a male and female monastery (Upper and Lower Ilbenstadt). This Premonstratensian monastery is the oldest religious settlement in the Wetterau. The first provost was Antonius, a student of St. Norbert . In 1657 the monastery became an abbey . According to a legend, there was said to have been an underground passage between the men's and women's monasteries. Based on this legend, the local collection of short stories, Das Ilbenstädter Dekameron , was created in 2005 . From 1946 to 1979 the monastery housed a reformatory for girls.
  • The old Ilbenstadt abbey and today's parish church of St. Maria, Petrus and Paulus is also called the Wetterau Cathedral . It was founded in 1929 by Pope Pius XI. raised to the minor basilica .
  • The pilgrimage church of St. Gangolf in the lost village of Sternbach was first mentioned in a document in 778 in the so-called Beatus document.
The Jewish cemetery in Assenheim
  • The Assenheim grain silo was the largest grain silo in Europe in the 1940s and part of the roller mill that was shut down in the 1970s. Even today, the 45 meter high tower, which was built on the former mill island, is used to store grain.
  • At the end of the 1960s, a bunker was built as a command center for civil protection and disaster control in Frankfurt. The facility, which is no longer used, is located between the Ilbenstadt and Kaichen districts, about 300 m outside of Ilbenstadt.
  • Jewish cemeteries : There are Jewish cemeteries with preserved gravestones in Assenheim and Bönstadt .

  • Niddatal is connected to the RMV local transport network through the Assenheim train station . Regional trains of the DB Regio Mitte run there from Monday morning to Saturday evening almost every hour to half an hour in the direction of Friedberg and Hanau. On Sundays, the trains run in a strongly thinned out rhythm.
  • The former Erbstadt-Kaichen stop, which belongs to the Bönstadt district, was given up in the 1990s due to a lack of profitability due to its distance from the two places.
