history

Middle Ages and Early Modern Times

The oldest surviving mention as "Eluistat" comes from 818.

In the Holy Roman Empire , the village belonged to the Freigericht Kaichen , which came under the rule of the Burggrafschaft Friedberg in the 15th century . As part of the Kaichen Free Court, Ilbenstadt fell to the Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1806 .

In Ilbenstadt, the particular law of the Kaichen Free Court, the Friedberger Police Regulations, applied . In 1679 it was renewed and printed. This is the first time that it can be put into writing. She mainly dealt with administrative , police and regulatory law . In this respect, the Solms land law remained the main source of law for the broad area of civil law . The Common Law was, moreover, if all these regulations did not contain provisions for a fact. This legal situation remained in effect in the 19th century after Ilbenstadt was transferred to the Grand Duchy of Hesse. It was not until the Civil Code of January 1, 1900, which was uniformly valid throughout the German Reich , that this old particular law was suspended.

Modern times

The robber Johann Georg Gottschalk, also called the black boy or Veltens Heinrich, came from Ilbenstadt. His father's name was Johann Goerg and his mother's was Lies. He was a member of the Wetterau gang . 23 crimes have been proven to him. On September 14, 1810 he was arrested in Ulrichstein . He was burdened u. a. by the notorious Odenwald robber Holzlips . On March 24, 1813, he was sentenced to death by the sword with Johann Justus Dietz from Asslar , Ludwig Funk from Sellnrod and other members of the Wetterauer gang, Johann Adam Frank, Conrad Anschuh , the Heidenpeter and Johannes Borgener , and executed in Giessen .

In September 1966 a bunker was built as a command center for civil and disaster control in Frankfurt and handed over on May 5, 1970. The bunker is located between the communities of Ilbenstadt and Kaichen, about 300 m outside of Ilbenstadt. In the Ilbenstadt bunker they should survive for 30 days.

On December 1, 1970 , the city of Assenheim and the communities of Bönstadt and Ilbenstadt merged voluntarily to form the new city of Niddatal as part of the regional reform in Hesse, and with it Ilbenstadt came to the Wetteraukreis on August 1, 1972 .
