The city is located about 28 km northeast of Frankfurt am Main in the Wetterau . Nidda and Horloff flow through the urban area .

Neighboring communities

Florstadt borders the city of Reichelsheim in the north, the municipality of Ranstadt in the northeast, the municipality of Glauburg in the east, the municipality of Altenstadt and the city of Niddatal in the south and the city of Friedberg in the west .

  • Around 90 AD, during the Chat Wars, the Roman Emperor Domitian built the Ober-Florstadt fort in the Ober-Florstadt district .
  • Nieder-Mockstadt was first mentioned in a document in 930.
  • In 1150, today's district of Staden was first mentioned in a document for the city of Goslar and received city rights in 1304.
  • Today's Stammheim district was first mentioned in a document in 1244.
  • Leydthecken (Leidhecken) was first mentioned in a document in the 12th century.
  • In 1365 Nieder-Florstadt received city ​​rights from Emperor Charles IV .
  • Since March 27, 2007, Florstadt has had city rights again.

Church building

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , on July 1, 1970, the previously independent municipalities of Nieder-Florstadt and Ober-Florstadt voluntarily merged to form the new municipality "Florstadt". Staden was added on December 31, 1971. Leidhecken followed on February 1, 1972. With the incorporation of Nieder-Mockstadt and Stammheim, the series of incorporations was completed on August 1, 1972 by virtue of state law.

Place name

In 880 Florstadt is attested as a “plague”. The name can go back to the Old High German blaen ('blasen', ' wehen ') and then means something like Windstadt. The F initial sound is only in the 11th / 12th. Century ("Flagestat"). In the Central Hessian dialect there was then a contraction -age-> o.
