history

The place was probably settled at the end of the 1st century when the Limes was built. In the 9th century (817 AD) Florstadt is mentioned in the Lorsch Codex . In 1365 the place was fortified. Nieder-Florstadt received city rights . In the first half of the 18th century, the Löwsche Castle was built on the eastern edge of the village .

Until 1806 the place belonged to the Ganerbschaft Staden , in which the Reichsburg Friedberg ( 1357 ), the Counts of Isenburg-Büdingen ( 1257 ) and the Freiherr Löw von und zu Steinfurth ( 3257 ) had shares. In 1806 Nieder-Florstadt came to the Grand Duchy of Hesse in the course of mediation . The lower jurisdiction remained with the landlords and was exercised from 1820 by the Steinfurt Patrimonial Court. In 1822, the “Grand Ducal Hessian District Court of the Barons of Löw” belonging to the district of Butzbach was founded in Friedberg, where the patrimonial court was incorporated. It was only as a result of the March Revolution of 1848 that the special civil rights were finally abolished with the “Law on the Relationships of Classes and Noble Court Lords” of April 15, 1848.

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , on July 1, 1970, the previously independent municipalities of Nieder-Florstadt and Ober-Florstadt voluntarily merged to form the new municipality "Florstadt".
