Course of the road

The federal highway 28a (abbreviation: B 28a ) was the temporary name of the new section of the federal highway 28 from Dornstetten via Horb am Neckar , the federal highway 81 and Rottenburg am Neckar to Tübingen . The actual B 28 continued from Dornstetten via Altensteig , Nagold and Herrenberg towards Tübingen.

history

The first section, the Ergenzingens bypass , was built between 2004 and 2007. The road was opened on March 7, 2007. The groundbreaking of the easternmost section between Tübingen Central Station and Weilheim took place on November 3, 2006, the actual construction work then started in mid-February 2007. The 1.6 kilometer long and 4.4 million euro expensive four-lane Section was completed in October 2007. At the western end, from Dornstetten via Schopfloch to Horb am Neckar , construction work began in spring 2009 and was completed on November 20, 2012 when it was opened to traffic.

In July 2015, the federal government approved the construction of the gap between Rottenburg and Tübingen . This is to run from the current provisional end of the expansion section at Tübingen-Weilheim parallel to the existing Tübingen-Horb railway line , in order to be linked to the existing L 361 southeast of Rottenburg. A junction is to be built at Tübingen-Bühl. In the course of these construction measures, the L 361 between the already existing section of the B 28a near Seebronn is to be upgraded to the B 28 until it connects to the newly built section, so that it runs seamlessly between Tübingen and the A 81. The groundbreaking for this construction work took place on April 4, 2016, and construction started a few days later.

Another section, the southern bypass of Eutingen , is in the planning phase. However, since the B 14 between Rottweil and Herrenberg was downgraded in 2017 due to insufficient long-distance traffic relevance, the federal government added the section between Horb am Neckar and Eutingen am Gäu to the B 28a.

In January 2018, the original B 28 between Dornstetten and Herrenberg was downgraded to a state road and converted to the B 296 between Herrenberg and Tübingen . Since then, the B 28 has been running over the former B 28a.
