The national highway 525 (abbreviation: B 525 ) is a German national road in North Rhine-Westphalia .

course

The federal road 525 emerges south of Südlohn from the new route of the B 70 , which reaches its old route here, and leads through the Westmünsterland via Gescher , Coesfeld , and Nottuln to the A 43 motorway . The section between the German-Dutch border in Südlohn- Oeding and the new route of the B 70 is not a federal, but a state road ( L 558 ). After the border, the road leads as the N 319 to Winterswijk and on through the province of Gelderland .

History / other

The B 525 was set up in the mid- 1970s . It was initially erroneously referred to as B 523. The correction was made in 1977. On the section from Gescher to Nottuln , the B 525 is identical to the much older B 67 . The approximately 14 km long section between the B 70 and the Gescher / Coesfeld junction was rebuilt. In the first quarter of the 19th century, the route of the later B 67 was expanded and replaced an older long-distance trade route that led from the Münsterland to the Netherlands. In Darup , it also replaced the old postal route, the impressive section of which is a listed ravine on the Daruper Berg. It is located below the Darup pilgrimage chapel and attracts many walkers and pilgrims . The B 67 leads further south and roughly parallel to the B 525 from Borken on a modified route to north of Reken . A further extension of the B 67 to the A 43, junction Dülmen -Nord is planned.

Bypass roads

The Darup bypass was opened to traffic on September 22, 2009 . These 3.3 kilometers of road cost 6.5 million euros. The preliminary investigations for this new building had already started in 1994. The planning ended with the planning approval decision of December 30, 2005; work began on May 31, 2007.

Preliminary work for the Nottuln bypass began in February 2013, and the first bridge works followed in March. The new 4.9 km long bypass was opened in May 2018. For the Nottuln bypass, costs of 21.54 million euros from federal funds were spent.
