The national highway 219 (abbreviation: B 219 ) is a federal highway in Germany . Your entire route is within North Rhine-Westphalia . Its length is only around 28 km. It connects the Tecklenburger Land with the city of Greven and from there via the B 481 and L 587 (formerly southern part of the B 219) with the city of Münster .

history

Ramp of the pass road at the Dörenther cliffs with the Ibbenbüren summer toboggan run

The overland route from Münster to Saerbeck was expanded into a Chaussee in 1846 . Around 1937 this well-developed route was elevated to the status of Reichsstraße .

On July 17, 1986, the underpass, which at that time still belonged to the main road, was inaugurated under the Löhne – Rheine railway line at Ibbenbüren station .

Until the 1990s, the starting point of the B 219 was about 3.5 kilometers further north within the urban area of Ibbenbüren , where it met the B 65 . After this was downgraded to a state road between Osnabrück and Salzbergen , the starting point of the B 219 was moved out of the urban area and the B 219 has since started at junction 11b of the A 30 .

Until 2016, the federal highway ran from Ibbenbüren to Münster. In Greven she crossed while the Ems and right at the city border between Greven and Munster the A1 . They bypassed Münster-Sprakel as well as Saerbeck and Greven on a bypass. In Münster she finally met the B 54 . This formerly southern section of the B 219 was downgraded to a country road in 2016 and has been part of the L 587 since then.

course

The B 219 begins in Ibbenbüren at junction 11b of the A 30 . Due to the high traffic it is considered to be the busiest road next to the motorway within Ibbenbüren. From there, its course takes you in a southerly direction. The B 219 passes the foothills of the Teutoburg Forest with the Dörenther Klippen with a pass road and then crosses the Dortmund-Ems Canal in Dörenthe . It then crosses the municipality of Saerbeck from north to south , at the height of which the B 219 divides the route with the B 475 over a length of around two kilometers . It continues to Greven , where it crosses the B 481 and joins the L 587, the formerly southern part of the B 219 to Münster. It therefore ends at the entrance to the city of Greven at the intersection with the B 481 .

In Greven it also crossed the 2016 Ems and directly at the border between Greven and Münster the A 1 . In addition, she bypassed Münster-Sprakel as well as Saerbeck and Greven on a bypass. This section of the route has been part of the L 587 since 2016, which connects to the old four-lane southern section of the B 219 at the entrance to Münster-Kinderhaus .

The road meets the B 54 there . Both roads then follow the same route over a length of around 1,800 meters. After the two federal highways have separated again, the reactivated B 219 leads the last two and a half kilometers to the south and ends there at the B 51 , which later becomes the A 43 .
