About this picture

Saerbeck (pronounced [ ˌzɑːˈbɛk ] with Dehnungs -e , Low German Saorbiek ) is a municipality in the northern Münsterland , Steinfurt district . Since March 17, 2012 Saerbeck leads officially the nickname "NRW climate community".

geography

Neighboring communities

Saerbeck borders the Tecklenburger Land in the north and east with the towns of Hörstel , Ibbenbüren , Tecklenburg , Ladbergen and in the south and west on the Münsterland with Greven and Emsdetten .

Community structure

The community is divided into the official districts of Saerbeck and Am Schulkamp (industrial area). Then there are the peasantry Westladbergen, Middendorf and Sinningen .

history

The first mention of Saerbeck by name is around the period around 1100. For example, a “sarbikie Hoio” was found among the settled farms that had to give up payments in kind to the distant Freckenhorst Abbey . Saerbeck was first documented in 1122 as "curtis sorbecke", belonging to the Saerbeck farm, and was assigned to the Cappenberg monastery as property. The naming of a church by means of a certificate of ownership by Emperor Friedrich I in 1161 and a document naming a parish in 1196 are still among the first documented sources from Saerbeck.

With church and parish also was parish Saerbeck to which the village and the peasantry Sinningen, Middendorf, Dorfbauerschaft and Westladbergen belonged. With 23 farms in the Sinningen peasantry, 20 in Middendorf, 24 in the village peasantry and 23 in West Ladbergen, the increasing growth of Saerbeck can be identified in the lifting register of the Bishop of Münster from 1498. 600 to 700 inhabitants lived in Saerbeck at that time, the village population consisted mainly of craftsmen and traders.

Before Saerbeck was assigned to the Münster district in the Prussian province of Westphalia in 1816, the Saerbeck parish belonged to the prince-bishopric of Münster from 1400 to 1803 . Between 1806 and 1813 Saerbeck was under the French rule of Napoléon Bonaparte .

Armed conflicts such as the battle against a small Spanish mercenary army in the Thirty Years' War in 1628 , in which there were fatalities, the small village experienced as well as a famine after a hailstorm in 1832.

Flood on the Ems

The feudalism present at this time only freed the peasants living in Saerbeck from serfdom after the Prussian reforms . Saerbeck's population rose to around 1,900 by the first half of the 19th century.

In the First and Second World War , Saerbeck was spared direct military attacks, although a larger night hunting position with the code name “Rheinsalm” was located in the north of the community. However, the Dortmund-Ems Canal was a frequent target for Allied bombing. A farm in West Ladbergen was completely destroyed and there was much more damage, among other things because the canal regularly leaked during such attacks.

As a result of the local reorganization, Saerbeck has belonged to the Steinfurt district since January 1st, 1975 . The community remained independent, but had to cede residents and land to the neighboring communities of Emsdetten , Greven , Ladbergen and Tecklenburg .

A partnership with the French community of Ferrières-en-Gâtinais has existed since 1994 . In addition, in June 2001 the partnership agreement was signed with the Lithuanian city of Rietavas .

Current political projects

Climate commune

Saerbeck has been a climate municipality in North Rhine-Westphalia since 2009. The village shares the 3.3 million euro prize with Bocholt in Westmünsterland, he was awarded 1.1 million euros to implement the concept with which the municipality had applied for the award. The municipality's goal is to generate more energy from regenerative sources by 2030 than it consumes in terms of energy, although due to the great demand from investors, the goal appears to be achievable in the next few years. The three most important "lead projects" are:

Assembly of the solar modules on the bunkers in the Saerbeck bioenergy park
Wind farm under construction in Saerbeck
  1. Saerbecker Sonnenseiten: The community is promoting the use of solar energy . Among other things, all roofs in the village were checked for their suitability for photovoltaic systems . The local banks have set up appropriate funding programs. A citizens ' energy cooperative “Energie für Saerbeck” under the leadership of the local Volksbank is to create the financial basis for investments. This energy cooperative has installed around two thirds of the photovoltaic systems in the bioenergy park (see below) and plans to finance a wind turbine.
  2. Saerbecker Insights: The community's school and sports center is now supplied by a local heating network . In the former secondary school, a pellet heating center was set up behind a glass front, an information center on the overall project complements the external effect. An energy educational trail with ten stations provides information on renewable energies and ways to save energy .

  1. Saerbeck material flows: The municipality has bought a 90 hectare ammunition depot in its district, which was taken over by the municipality in 2011. A large bioenergy park was then built there. In addition to a biogas plant of EnviTec Biogas with a megawatt were in 2013 seven wind turbines of the type E-101 Enercon built with 149 meters hub height each with 3 MW. A 6.4-megawatt photovoltaic system was put into operation on the 74 existing bunkers in summer 2012. The central composting plant of the Steinfurt district will also be located there. Processing wood waste into pellets and digestate into fertilizers are other projects that have been tackled. Talks are currently underway about storage projects in the bunkers, which are currently still storing the emergency salt reserve of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Citizens Bus Association

The Emsdetten-Saerbeck Citizens Bus Association has existed since 2007. Two eight-person buses are now being driven by volunteers with the aim of ensuring mobility, especially for older people , even on routes that are neglected by local public transport . The Citizen Bus I runs between Emsdetten and Saerbeck, the Citizen Bus II in the city of Emsdetten.

Multi-generation house

In 2008, a multi-generation house was set up in the former town hall of the municipality, sponsored by the Saerbeck family and with federal funding . A community foundation takes care of the maintenance. Numerous groups have found a home in the building. In particular, there is a lot on offer for young families, children and young people and senior citizens. The café Samocca in the house is run by people with a disability under the sponsorship of Ledder workshops .

Attractions

Parish Church of St. George

The first evidence of a church in Saerbeck comes from a document from Emperor Heinrich V in 1161. Around 1200 there was probably the first stone church in Saerbeck in the Romanesque style, remains of the wall suggest that. At the beginning of the 16th century, a larger building in the late Gothic style was erected on the same site, the tower was raised, the date 1526 can be found on the tower portal. When this church fell into disrepair in the 19th century, it was demolished and replaced by the current one in 1896–1898 Church replaced. In 1917 the church was painted. However, these murals were whitewashed in the 1960s and only reappeared during renovation work in the 1980s. They are considered to be particularly beautiful examples of neo-Gothic painting, which are rarely found in Westphalia.

Other pieces of equipment worth seeing in the church are a baptismal font from the 13th century, a late Gothic Madonna, a Baroque Pieta from the 18th century and neo-Gothic colored glazing (restored).

Meanwhile, there are also numerous industrial companies in Saerbeck, e.g. B. a company that produces resilient components for pipe rehabilitation, for wind turbines, offshore platforms, aircraft and vehicle construction, a manufacturer of biogas plants, a software company is also on site.

Saerbeck has three large industrial areas (Industriestraße, Am Schulkamp, industrial area north). There is even larger free space available in the north industrial area. The rate of assessment for trade tax is currently 420 percent.

The port of Dörenthe is connected to the Ibbenbüren – Lengerich – Gütersloh line of the Teutoburg Forest Railway (TWE) via a branch line, which is used exclusively for freight traffic . The municipality of Saerbeck is served by bus routes from the Münsterland transport association. There are connections to the train stations Emsdetten, Greven, Ibbenbüren, Münster and Münster / Osnabrück Airport. A citizen bus (see below) improves the public transport offer.
