The federal road 71 (abbreviation: B 71 ) is a 391 kilometer long federal road in Germany and thus one of the longest of the category of the 60s and 70s numbers. It begins in the south of Bremerhaven ( State of Bremen ) and runs through the federal states of Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt .

course

The B 71 begins at the B 6 in Bremerhaven on the Lower Weser and ends at the A 14 in Magdeburg . In its beginning it is one of the East-West crosslinks the Elbe-Weser triangle and results in a slight curve about Bremervörde (48 km, just together with the B 74 ) and Zeven (71 km) over the Hansalinie A 1 (83 km) to the city of Rotenburg (Wümme) (97 km). Here it crosses the B 75 and continues past the Lüneburg Heath to Soltau (133 km), where it crosses the B 3 . Further east it goes through heathland to Uelzen (190 km), where the road with the B 4 again crosses a "large" federal road. Now it leads through the Elbhöhen-Wendland Nature Park and crosses the old state border and the current state border between Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt at km 222 .

In Salzwedel (233 km) the B 71 leaves the Wendland on the left and turns to the southeast. In the Altmark it goes through villages and sparsely populated heathland. In Gardelegen it meets the B 188. After Gardelegen the road turns south, the 30 km long route through the Colbitz-Letzlinger Heide is worth mentioning here . After 335 km the B 71 arrives in Magdeburg, where it crosses the A 14 , the A 2 and the B 1 , and crosses the old cathedral city like a motorway in a north-south direction as part of the Magdeburger Ring .

Until mid-2009 it continued for 56 km as the “ Romanesque Road ” through the Anhalt heartland and via Bernburg , until it returned to the B 6 at Könnern , 26 km before Halle . Because of the parallel A 14, just like the B 6, it was rededicated on this part as a state road. Thus, apart from the B 498 , it was the only federal highway that began on the same federal highway as it ended before the downgrade .

At the exit of Magdeburg in the direction of Halle is the Prussian all-mile column Magdeburg, a post-mile column from the 18th century.

history

origin

The land route from Magdeburg via Halle to Leipzig , notorious in the 18th century because of its condition , was developed as the first road in what is now Saxony-Anhalt to become a fortified art road ( Chaussee ) between 1788 and 1796 and later designated as the Prussian State House No. 65 .

Around fifty years later, around 1843, the road from Magdeburg via Salzwedel to Uelzen, which was known as Prussian State Office No. 86 , was expanded into a paved art road ( Chaussee ).

Previous routes and names

The trunk road 71 (FVS 71) established in 1932, called Reichsstrasse 71 (R 71) from 1934 , originally led from the Dutch border near Leer via Oldenburg to Bremen and Rotenburg (Rotenburg in Hanover, as it was called at the time). From here the road was continued in the route that is today. Until 1936, the then national route 71 led across the Colbitz-Letzlinger heath of Gardelegen by Dolle and had to because of the construction of the shooting range of the Army Research Center Hillersleben on today's route on Letzlingen and Haldensleben be laid. From Dolle, the R 71 continued on the route of today's Bundesstraße 189 to Magdeburg, where it met today's road again.

In Beverstedt , 20 km south of Bremerhaven, a five-kilometer bypass was built around the town center, which was released on September 13, 2005.

In December 2006 a southern bypass was opened in Bremerhaven - Wulsdorf , which replaces the Lindenallee .
