Culture and sights
The Anglo-Saxon missionary Willehadus not only founded the cathedral in Bremen , but probably also a prayer church in Oerel. In its place in the center of the village is the Gangolf Church of the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Oerel, a Romanesque stone church that dates from the 12th century. The church tower was not originally connected to the church, but stood a few meters away from it. After this tower collapsed in a storm in 1703, it was replaced by a new one in 1732, which was built directly onto the west side of the church. The church houses an organ from Stade organ builder Georg Wilhelm from 1830/31.
