About this picture

Basdahl ( Low German Basdaal or Basdohl ) is a municipality in the Geestequelle municipality in the Rotenburg (Wümme) district in Lower Saxony . In addition to the main town of Basdahl, the towns of Volkmarst and Oese also belong to it .

Geographical location

Location of Basdahl in the Geestequelle municipality

Basdahl is located in the center of the Elbe-Weser triangle , about four kilometers north of Brillit , about twelve kilometers east of Beverstedt , six kilometers south of Hipstedt and about six to seven kilometers west of Spreckens , Fahrendorf and Klenkendorf . Basdahl is located in the combined municipality of Geestequelle in the south and borders the city of Bremervörde and the municipality of Gnarrenburg .

history

From the 14th to the 17th century, the state parliaments of the Archbishopric of Bremen with the cathedral chapter, the knighthood, the cities and the clergy of the Archbishopric of Bremen were held in the "Hohlen Grund" at Steingraben in Basdahl . These estates show a continuity to the landscape of the duchies of Bremen and Verden that exists today , which are responsible for the regional culture and identity maintenance in the Elbe-Weser triangle within the framework of the Stade Regional Association and on behalf of the State of Lower Saxony .

On March 1, 1974, the communities Oese and Volkmarst were incorporated and at the same time the joint municipality of Basdahl dissolved.

Place name

Former place names of Basdahl were in 1297 Bodesdal and 1549 Baßdal. In the second part there is clearly Low German dal for "valley". The first part of the name is similar to other place names, such as 1398 Basfelde, 1537 Bachsfeldtt, 1587 Bachsfelde, 1590 Basfelt, 1715 Bassfeld; † Bassleben near Helmstedt, 952 Bassallo, approx. 1150 Basselo; Baßberg, FlurN near Hameln, (approx. 1470–1480) on the Basberg mer; Basbeck bei Osten, approx. 1250 Basbeke; Balsbeke, around 1280 Bastbecke, 1347 de Basbeke; Bassenfleth near Stade, 1255 in Bassenvlete, 1268 in Bassenfleth.

Perhaps the first part is derived from Old High German bar (* baza), lit. bãsas "barefoot", aksl. bosъ “barefoot” an approach bhes- “rub, rub, scatter”, which also includes bhoso-s “naked”, “originally probably related to bald, scuffed areas”. The Germanic has a share in this, namely with the words broom as “the sweeper, sweeper”, bar “bar, blo” and the basic meaning “blank” and bast.

The meaning of the name as “rubbed off, rubbed place” equals “rubbed, worn valley” remains uncertain.

Districts

Basdahl

School in Basdahl

In the Basdahl district, which fulfills a central function, there is a primary school with a gym, a kindergarten, two banking institutes and various commercial and service companies to cover basic daily needs. There is an old legend about Basdahl. At the Bremisches Ritterhaus there is a stone that should tell something about the legend.

Eyelet

The district of Oese is known as the former seat of the Issendorff family . The Poggemühlen estate there , with the brick mansion built in 1586 with a steep pitched roof, is a courtyard area enclosed on three sides with moats and a lime tree avenue. The estate is managed by Botho von Schwarzkopf and his wife Margarete von Schwarzkopf .

The small patronage church, built in brick by the knight Christoph von Issendorff in 1577/78, is a particular attraction. Immediately next to the church, the former Oes village school became the Oese leisure and meeting place. The house owner is the parish of Bremervörde-Zeven .

Volkmarst

There was already settlement in the Volkmarster district in prehistoric times. In Vörder Register in 1500 it enrolled Volmerstede . Perhaps a Volkmar, as the leader of the clan, decided to found the village near the pond at the time of settlement. Today the center of the village is located here with leisure facilities such as a playground, barbecue area, village community center with a shooting hall, fire station and sports field.

coat of arms

DEU Basdahl COA.svg
Blazon : “Split of silver (white) and red; in front two diagonally crossed red keys with turned away beards; behind an upright silver (white) sword with a golden (yellow) handle. "
Reasons for the coat of arms: The crossed keys on the coat of arms remind of the centuries-long rule of the Archbishopric of Bremen until the transition to Sweden after the Thirty Years' War ; the sword is considered a sign of jurisdiction.
