Geography and transport links
Neighboring communities
Farven is located in the west on the border with the district of Stade (municipalities of Brest and Kutenholz ). Farven borders the unified municipality of Bremervörde in the east and Deinstedt in the south-west and Anderlingen in the south .
Community structure
In addition to the districts of Farven and Byhusen, the residential areas Baaste and Baaster Berg , which are on the K 109 between Farven and Sadersdorf , Steinberg on the K 127 between Farven and Byhusen and Stüh on the K 122 between Farven and Malstedt belong to the municipality.
traffic
Due to its peripheral location, only two district roads lead through the municipality: on the one hand, the K 109, which leads from Anderlingen in the south via Baaste to Kutenholz in the north, and on the other hand the K 122, which leads from Farven in the west to Malstedt .
history
On the western outskirts of Farven lie / were several large stone graves and tumuli from the Neolithic and Bronze Ages. A stone box was retrieved from one and moved behind the Bachmann Museum in Bremervörde .
The first documentary mention of Farven was in 1132 as Verwede . In the 12th century Farven was owned by Count Rudolf von Stade and his mother, Countess Richardis. A part of the taxes went to the St George monastery . At that time Farven consisted of eight courtyards and one manor . Around 1500 Farven was owned by the Stade Monastery, but services and taxes went to Vörde Castle . The church was built in 1910 . In 1944 the volunteer fire brigade was founded.
Byhusen was also wholly or partly owned by the Stade monastery. The place is probably named after the Byhusen family, whose name is derived from the Low German Bihuus , which means house or side house. Presumably the family belonged to the Bremen service aristocracy . She moved to Stade unknown.
Incorporations
In 1929 the neighboring Fehrenbruch was incorporated, but on October 1, 1949 it became an independent municipality again.
On March 1, 1974, the neighboring municipality of Byhusen was incorporated in the course of the 1974 municipal reform. Farven is part of the Selsingen municipality .
Surname
Old names of the place are 1132–1137 Verwede and 1237–1246 Verwede. The second part of the place name consists of the Low German “wede” for “forest” and the first part of the old Frisian “fara” for “drive, go”. Apparently he is referring to the location of the settlement on a traffic route.
religion
Farven is evangelical-Lutheran and belongs to the parish of the St. Lamberti Church in Selsingen . There is an independent Evangelical Lutheran Pella congregation with a church from 1910 on site.

coat of arms
The coat of arms of Farven shows Saint George in gold on a blue background on a silver horse killing a golden dragon. This creates a reference to the Georgskloster in Stade , to which the places Farven and Byhusen belonged. In the lower third, separated by a silver wave bar, which symbolizes the Bever, a silver heart is shown, which is covered with a golden six-pointed flame star. This comes from the coat of arms of the Byhusen family, which was based in Byhusen. A descendant of the family is currently (in 2000) the press spokesman for the University of Harburg. The family is now called Bihusen.
Economy and Infrastructure
Farven is shaped by agriculture . There are also some handicraft businesses, a restaurant as well as a special educational kindergarten and a play area. There used to be a school in Farven.
The next basic center is Selsingen .
The fire brigade and the rifle club play important roles for the village community.
