The Bever is a right tributary of the Oste in Lower Saxony , Germany. Their origin lies on the edge of the Frankenmoor nature reserve , near the village of Frankenmoor (municipality of Bargstedt ). From there it first flows in a south-westerly direction, before it turns in a wide arc to the north-west and flows into the Oste at Bremervörde .
For an explanation of the name, see Bevern (Bremervörde) .
environment
flora
Since there is no woodland on the banks of the upper reaches of the Bever, with the exception of a few sections, the slowly flowing water warms up when the sun is strong. Therefore grow on the sandy sediment in places Wasserstern and waterweed .
Water quality
The biological water quality analysis was carried out in 1994 and 1999, the chemical-physical water analysis in 1999 and the structural quality overview mapping in 1998. The upper reaches of the Bever (section of the river shortly after it was formed) was classified in water quality class II-III "critically polluted". The section up to the confluence with the Oste was classified in class II “moderately stressed”. The limit values for ammonium , nitrate and TOC (total organic carbon) were exceeded at times.
expansion
The section of the Bever below Malstedt has a predominantly straight line. There are some barrages on this section.
water sports
The Bever can be crossed by kayaks and canoes over a distance of 17.5 km from the Farven – Steinberg / Byhusen road bridge to the confluence with the Oste , if the water level is appropriate . It is closed from March 1st to July 15th.
