Tarmstedt ( Low German Tarms ) is a municipality and the administrative seat of the Tarmstedt municipality of the same name in the Rotenburg (Wümme) district in Lower Saxony . The community is on the edge of the Teufelsmoors and the Zevener Geest north of the A1 .
history
The first settlements are believed to have started around 200 AD. 796 to Charlemagne be pulled through here and the battle against the Wigmodier on the Wüllenheide in Wilstedt took place. At the beginning of the 1970s, the Tarmstedt joint community was established with 13 communities at the time. The cooperative comprehensive school was inaugurated in 1975.

coat of arms
The coat of arms of the municipality shows a silver ax pointing non-heraldically to the left on a green background. Below the ax are two gold rings, one on top of the other. The rings were found in the area around the town in the opencast mine and in the original they have a diameter of about 10 cm.

Tarmstedt gymnastics and sports club from 1908 ( TuS Tarmstedt ) is the largest popular sports club with around 1200 members. It has thirteen departments (divisions).

Regular events
The four-day Tarmstedt exhibition has been held annually since 1949, an agricultural machinery and equipment exhibition with a large family and entertainment program, which regularly has around 100,000 visitors. The open-air concert Rock den Lukas has also been taking place since 2004, where bands such as Sub7even , Torfrock and Jennifer Rostock have performed.

The place is on the Landstrasse 133, which connects the place with Bremen and with Zeven .
Between 1900 and 1956, the Bremen – Tarmstedt small train operated between Tarmstedt and Bremen . The 27-kilometer route led from Tarmstedt through the Teufelsmoor via Worphausen and Lilienthal to Bremen. In addition, Tarmstedt was on the Wilstedt – Tostedt railway line .
Near Tarmstedt is the Tarmstedt-Westertimke glider airfield , where the SFG-Bremen glider pilots are based. There, glider and motor glider operations are mostly carried out on weekends.
