Minervino di Lecce is a south-eastern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 3559 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Lecce in Apulia . The community is located about 36.5 kilometers southeast of Lecce in eastern Salento .
history
The original, ancient settlement was probably founded by the Japygians . Several dolmens are evidence of an earlier settlement. Today's Minervino di Lecce, which still names the name of the ancient settlement ( Minerva ), was probably built in the 9th century.
