Specchia is a south-eastern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 4722 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Lecce in Apulia . The municipality is located about 47 kilometers south-southeast of Lecce in southern Salento and is a member of the association I borghi più belli d'Italia (The Most Beautiful Places in Italy).

history

Originally the community was founded in the 9th century. From 1190 Specchia was part of the county of Lecce and was thus under Norman rule.

The station on the railway line from Lecce to Gagliano del Capo is located in the neighboring village of Miggiano and is called Miggiano-Specchia-Montesano .
