history
The exact name of the city is thanks to Cultus Jani , who worked for the Roman Empire . At that time, in the area where Cutrofiano is today, there was a forest that was then named "Cutrubbo" by "Venerato", the god Giano. He gave the land to residents who had been cast out from neighboring towns.
At the time of the Greek - Byzantine rule, the village was literally magically attracted by their rituals and customs. They then formed the inhabitants of Cutrubbo (Cutrofiano) together with the county of Soleto and the chairman of Taranto in the years 1088 to 1463. The inhabitants began to breed horses and hold them with these races, which earned them a lot of prestige not only in the rule of Naples , but especially among the English.
In 1889 the city was renamed Cutrofiano.
Attractions
Cutrofiano's Cathedral was built in 1760. The cathedral entrance is framed by two important statues depicting the Virgin of the Snow and that of Sant'Antonio of Padova . The altar of Saint Gaetano inside is the work of the sculptor Domenico Miccoli .
