Trepuzzi is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 14,315 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Lecce in Apulia . The municipality is located within the Salento about 11.5 kilometers northwest of Lecce . Trepuzzi is geographically located in the Salentine plain (Pianura Salentina), the Valle della Cupa .

history

The history of Trepuzzi is linked to the history of Otranto (or the Terra d'Otranto ). The capital of the Terra d'Otranto was Lecce. Trepuzzi was first mentioned in a document in 1190.

economy

Trepuzzi has joined forces with some other municipalities to form the Gruppo di azione locale Valle della Cupa to promote tourism. The municipality is also part of the Parco del Negroamaro , which is dedicated to the social and economic development of municipalities in the province of Lecce and the province of Brindisi .

traffic

State road 613 (from Brindisi to Lecce) and state road 7 ter (from Taranto to Lecce) pass by Trepuzzi . The former state road 16 leads through the town itself . Trepuzzi station is served by trains on the Brindisi-Lecce railway line as part of Ferrovia Adriatica .
