The municipality has 8059 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located in the province of Lecce in Apulia , about 6.5 kilometers south of Lecce in central Salento , in the Valle della Cupa .

In the north the Strada Statale 694 (Tangenziale Ovest di Lecce) leads as a ring road around Lecce, in the west lies the Strada Statale 101 Salentina di Gallipoli and in the east the Strada Statale 16 Adriatica . The former Strada Statale 476 di Galatina runs through the municipality itself .

The S. Cesario di Lecce train station is on the Lecce – Gallipoli line .
