Andrano is a south- east Italian municipality ( comune ).

geography

The community has 4726 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located in the province of Lecce in Apulia , about 45.5 kilometers south-southeast of Lecce on the Ionian Sea in southern Salento . Andrano is part of the Parco Costa Otranto - Santa Maria di Leuca e Bosco di Tricase .

history

In 1196 the parish was given to a Peter De Curla . Then the fief came to the Rossi family, from 1341 to 1349 to the De Castelli, was acquired in 1354 by the Sambiase and in 1358 by the Capece and subsequently passed to other families: 1404 De Hugot, 1431 Orsini -Del Balzo, 1466 Saraceno , 1606 Spinola, 1660 gallon, 1734 Caracciolo . The latter ruled until the abolition of feudal feuds in 1806 and owned the castle until the 20th century.
