Luigi Accogli
Luigi Accogli (born August 16, 1917 in Andrano , Province of Lecce , Italy ; † June 21, 2004 ) was an Italian clergyman, Roman Catholic archbishop and diplomat of the Holy See .
Life
Luigi Accogli received on 6 March 1943, the sacrament of Holy Orders .
On October 16, 1967, Pope Paul VI appointed him . the Titular Archbishop of Treba and ordered him to apostolic nuncio in China . The Cardinal Secretary of State Amleto Giovanni Cardinal Cicognani donated him episcopal ordination on November 26th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Otranto , Gaetano Pollio PIME , and the Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples , Curia Archbishop Sergio Pignedoli .
On September 29, 1970 Paul VI appointed him. to the Apostolic Nuncio in Ecuador . Luigi Accogli became Apostolic Nuncio in Bangladesh on July 6, 1979 . On June 17, 1988, Pope John Paul II appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in Syria .
On February 18, 1993, Pope John Paul II accepted Luigi Accogli's resignation due to reasons of age.
