The Višňové Tunnel ( Slovak Tunel Višňové ) is a motorway tunnel under construction in northern Slovakia , which will be built as part of the D1 motorway , section Lietavská Lúčka –Dubná Skala (11.3 km). With its length of 7,520 meters, the tunnel will be the longest engineering structure on the D1 and is expected to be completed in 2023. Two tubes are built from the start. According to current plans, a longer tunnel is planned, the Karpaty tunnel near Bratislava on the D4 motorway with a length of around 9 km.
description
The tunnel will cross the Lúčanská Fatra massif , part of the Little Fatra . The west portal can be found southeast of the center of Višňové and west of the Hoblík mountain ( 933.6 m nm ), the east portal is a few hundred meters southeast of the Dubná Skala quarry, part of the town of Vrútky , immediately before the Dubná Skala junction (km 212 ). The ventilation shaft is located around 1,800 meters from the west portal.
history
Plans for a tunnel below the Little Fatra have existed since the 1960s, but steps towards the construction of the structure were not taken until the 1990s. The construction of the exploratory tunnel began in September 1998 after the laying of the foundation stone by both portals at the same time. From Višňové a new Austrian tunneling method (NÖT) was used , from Dubná Skala a tunnel boring machine type TBM ATB 35 HA was used. This project was completed on August 24, 2002: a total of 7,480 meters long exploratory tunnel was drilled, of which 3,118 meters are on the west and 4,362 meters on the east side.
According to initial planning, construction of the affected section of the motorway should begin in 2003, but the start of construction has been postponed several times, mostly for financial reasons. Another "official start of construction" took place in February 2010 after the laying of the foundation stone by then Minister of Transport Ľubomír Vážny as part of the PPP project. At that time, completion was expected in the first half of 2014, but after a change of government, PPP projects that had not yet started were canceled.
The public competition for the Lietavská Lúčka – Dubná Skala section began in December 2011, but was delayed by several appeals and appeals. It was only in June 2014 that a construction contract worth 410 million euros (excluding VAT) was signed with the consortium of the Italian construction company Salini Impregilo and the Slovakian Dúha as, which provides for a construction period of 66 months until December 2019. This time, the third laying of the foundation stone took place on June 17, 2014, the drilling officially began on June 9, 2015 with a ceremony. The exploratory tunnel between the two tunnel tubes will be retained for the purpose of drainage.
The breakthrough of the first tube took place on August 28, 2018, that of the second tube followed in the first week of September. Contrary to the original plan, work was delayed by nine months. According to the current status (September 2018), the work should last until 2022.
