  • Under construction
  • In planning
  • The Diaľnica D4 is a motorway in the southwest of Slovakia . When completed, it will form the 48 km long outer motorway ring from Bratislava , also known as Null-Ring (Slovakian nultý okruh ), beginning at the Jarovce border crossing (connection to the Austrian north-east motorway A6) and ending at the planned Devínska Nová Ves border crossing (connection to the Marchfeld expressway S8 also planned ). It should thus enclose the Slovak capital from the south, east and north.

Currently, only a two-kilometer feeder from the Jarovce border crossing to the Bratislava-Jarovce motorway junction and a three-kilometer single-lane feeder between Stupava and Devínska Nová Ves are in operation. A further 27.3 kilometers are to be built as part of a PPP project by 2020/2021 , while the remaining sections are still in the planning phase.

    history

Construction began in 1996 and the first section opened in June 1999. It is a 2 km long connection between the Austrian border and Jarovce , where there is a connection to the Diaľnica D2 as well as to Jarovce. During the planning and construction phase this section had the number D61, but was given the number D4 in 1999 after the renumbering of the Slovak motorway and expressway network. The connection to the west, the north-east A6 motorway towards Vienna , was opened on November 19, 2007.

    Feeder at Stupava

A 3 km long section, which serves as a feeder to Diaľnica D2 near Stupava and Devínska Nová Ves , was opened to traffic on August 1, 2011. This is only one-way and is designated as a road and the junction with the D2 is, with the exception of a direct connection from north to west, only built on the southern half, i.e. it is designed as a partial clover leaf.

    Expansion plans

Around 38 kilometers are currently still missing to complete the motorway ring.

The 27.3 km long section Bratislava-Jarovce – Ivanka pri Dunaji –Bratislava- Rača , together with the expressway R7 from Bratislava-Prievoz to Holice (32.1 km) is to be built and operated as part of a PPP project. Five new junctions, two motorway junctions at Bratislava-Ketelec (with the R7) and Ivanka pri Dunaji (with the D1 ) as well as a large rest area on both sides near Rovinka are to be built, and the existing Jarovce motorway junction is to be completed with the D2. In the long term, an additional junction is planned at Zálesie . The Danube and part of the Dunajské luhy nature reserve are crossed with a 2.9 km long bridge and elevated road combination.

The Obchvat Nula consortium formed by the Spanish Cintra , Austrian Porr and Australian Macquarie Capital was awarded the contract in December 2015 for the second Slovak PPP motorway project, which includes the above-mentioned D4 and R7 routes. The contract was originally supposed to take place before the parliamentary elections in March 2016 , but it was not carried out until May 20, 2016 in a ceremony in Šamorín . For the conclusion of the contract, a fixed annual payment of 56.72 million euros for 30 years was calculated by the Slovak state, so the total value of the project was around 1.89 billion euros, taking into account inflation and interest. According to the transport minister Roman Brecely from June 2016, the total value after the financing is now around 1.76 billion euros. The EIB is contributing to the financing with a loan of 426 million euros. The official start of construction was on October 24, 2016.

As the first part of the whole project, the five-kilometer bypass of Most pri Bratislave was opened on September 26, 2019 on the 2nd order road 572, which is connected to the motorway at the Most pri Bratislave junction. The first part of the motorway itself should be opened to traffic in March / April 2020, between the Ketelec motorway junction and the Rovinka junction (4.5 km), together with the section of the R7 between Ketelec and Holice. The release finally took place on July 19, 2020.

A closure of the motorway ring towards Devínska Nová Ves is planned in the further course. The 9 km long Karpaty tunnel is to be built through the Little Carpathians .
