geography

Landscape near Dobrohošť and Vojka nad Dunajom

The protected landscape area is divided into three political districts: Bratislavský kraj (Okresy Bratislava II , Bratislava V and Senec ), Trnavský kraj ( Okres Dunajská Streda ) and Nitriansky kraj ( Okres Komárno ). Except for the second and fifth parts, the landscape protection area is located on the Great Schüttinsel , part of the Slovakian Danube lowlands .

The first part is located immediately south of the Slovnaft oil refinery in the Podunajské Biskupice district on the left bank of the Danube and extends to the beginning of the Gabčíkovo reservoir near Hamuliakovo . The second part is located southwest of it on the other bank, near the districts of Rusovce and Čunovo . The third and largest part covers the strip of land between the old course of the Danube and at the same time the state border Slovakia-Hungary and the dam of the Gabčíkovo reservoir. Exceptions are the villages Dobrohošť , Vojka nad Dunajom and Bodíky . The fourth part connects directly to it on the left bank of the Danube at Sap , borders on the municipalities of Medveďov , Kľúčovec and Číčov and ends at Kližská Nemá . The fifth and last part lies between Veľké Kosihy and Zlatná na Ostrove and includes the island Veľkolélsky ostrov .

Flora and fauna

The entire protected landscape area is part of the Ramsar protected areas under number 605 .

Due to the location of the landscape protection area, the representation of aquatic plants is important, with many protected or threatened species such as white water lily , yellow pond rose , water nut , European sea can and common floating fern and others. Various orchids grow in the meadows : bug orchids , helmet orchids , lesser orchids , broad-leaved stendrums and two-leaved forest hyacinths are some examples. Alder , oak , ash , hornbeam , dogwood , poplar , elm and willow grow in the floodplains .

The animal world is influenced by different biotopes. There are 109 species of molluscs (22 of them are threatened) and hundreds of species of beetles such as the endemic Thinobius korbeli from the Kurzflügler family . The Nordic vole is one of the most important small mammals in the nature reserve.

The nature reserve is of great importance for the nesting and breeding of water birds. Some rare species that nest here are white-tailed eagles , little egrets, and purple herons .

Most of the fish species in Slovakia are found in the waters of the Danube and the surrounding floodplain landscape. Some rarities from the fish world are European dogfish , a wild form of carp , goat and marbled goby .

Recreational activities

Recreational activities in the conservation area include swimming, fishing, hiking, and cycling. The Danube Cycle Path runs through the area.
