Čunovo (in Slovak incorrectly also "Čuňovo"; German Sarndorf , Hungarian Dunacsún - until 1907 Csún - older also Csun or Csuny , Croatian Čunovo ) is a district in the south of Bratislava on the right side of the Danube on the border with Hungary .
Description and history
The place was first mentioned in 1232 as Chun . In the course of the Turkish wars, many Croatians immigrated to the place in the 16th century , and they still represent a strong minority in the place. Until 1947 the place belonged to Hungary together with the two neighboring villages Rusovce and Jarovce and came to Czechoslovakia as a result of the Second World War (see also Bratislava bridgehead ). The previously independent place became a district of Bratislava on January 1, 1972.
A church in the baroque style from the 18th century and the Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum , which opened in 2000 on the dam in the middle of the Danube, are worth seeing .
