Nové Mesto (German Neustadt , Hungarian [Pozsony-] Újváros ) is a district in the north of Bratislava .
Description and history
The district, which is characterized by vineyard valleys, had no urban settlement before the 18th century. The area was used for agriculture. The first urban structures developed from Račianske mýto and Trnavské mýto in the 18th century . The suffix “mýto” stands for toll .
District structure
The district is divided into the following cadastral areas:
- Nové Mesto ( New Town ), area: 9.85 km²
- Vinohrady ( vineyards ), area: 27.63 km²
as well as the unofficial parts:
- Ahoj ( Rössler )
- Jurajov dvor ( Georgshof )
- Koliba ( straw hut )
- Kramáre ( Kramer or Kramerberg )
- Mierová kolónia ( Peace Colony )
- Pasienky ( Sauheide )
- Kuchajda ( cow pastures or cowhide )
Important facilities
The main train station of Bratislava is located in the Nové Mesto district . There are also many sports facilities in the district, e.g. B. the ice rink Zimný štadión Ondreja Nepelu , the football stadiums Tehelné pole and Štadión Pasienky or the Sibamac Arena (tennis).
