The protected landscape area Biele Karpaty ( Slovak Chránená krajinná oblasť Biele Karpaty ) is a protected landscape area in western Slovakia , along the main ridge of the White Carpathians (Slovak Biele Karpaty ). It was proclaimed in 1979 and the relevant law was amended in 2003. The area is mainly in the political district of Trenčiansky kraj (Okresy Ilava , Myjava , Nové Mesto nad Váhom , Púchov and Trenčín ), with smaller parts in Trnavský kraj (Okresy Senica and Skalica ).
The administrative seat is in the town of Nemšová . There is also a protected landscape area on the Czech side, called Bílé Karpaty.
geography
The protected landscape area includes the Slovak side of the White Carpathians plus a small part of the Myjavská pahorkatina mountain range . Geologically speaking, it is a flysch mountain range .
The watershed between the March in the west and the Waag in the east runs over the main ridge . However, there is an exception here: due to the river tapping , the Vlára , which rises in Moravia, belongs to the catchment area of the Waag.
The highest point is the Veľká Javorina ( 970 m nm ) on the border .
Flora and fauna
About two thirds of the protected landscape area is covered by forests. Oaks and hornbeams grow in the lower elevations, beech trees higher up . Maples and ash trees grow on the rocky slopes . Coniferous forests can be found here and there. Here Pannonian plant species overlap with the Carpathian ones. Orchids are richly represented here, with species such as Fuchs's orchid or Holuby's ragwort . Endangered plant species such as corn-leaf , field buttercup and field black cumin grow on private fields .
Deer , roe deer and wild boar are relatively common in the landscape protection area . Large predators such as brown bears or lynxes , however, are rare. Other animal species occurring in the mountains are z. B. European praying mantis , alpine buck , stag beetle , red apollo , northern crested newt , black stork , saker falcon , eagle owl or wild cat .
