The district lies west of the foothills of the White Carpathians and ends in the west on the March . In the north and west it borders the Czech Republic (more precisely on the Okres Hodonín ), in the east on the Okres Myjava in Trenčiansky kraj and in the south on the Okres Senica .
Historically, the area is in the former Neutra county (see also the list of historical counties of Hungary ).
